Biography:Director, British Petroleum; chairman, Price Commission 1977-79, then managing director, Baring Bros and Co, Henry Ansbacher and Co (merchant banking). Appointed CBE 1980 for services to the Price Commission. He was created Lord Williams of Elvel (life peer) in 1985, and appointed Privy Counsellor 2013.
